Survival / Fear

Bare (audio)

Bare

And so
You leave me
Bare
Against the wind
Against the rain
In an open field
Where no shelter stands
and I wept
My bones my flesh
Ache after you
But in my thoughts
A world of fire
and warmth
And tears of Lovers
More than stars above

– Ephraim Hylton

Shoot ’em (audio)

Shoot ’em

Shoot ’em
In their cars
Shoot ’em
In the streets
Shoot ’em
In their homes
awake or sleep
Shoot ’em
In the stores
wherever they are
Let them know
They don’t
Belong
Shoot ’em
In the lulls
and peaks
Shoot ’em
In silence
And if they speak
Shoot ’em Shoot ’em…
Shoot ’em
In their party halls
And sacred places
Shoot ’em
In their poverty
Wealth and status
Never to be served
Never to be protected
Shoot ’em
Eat them
Shoot ’em
Drink them
Shoot ’em
Then
Love ’em

– Ephraim Hylton

Thought (audio)

Thought

The weight
of thought
infinitely more
substance
than matter
creates and destroys
in an instant
makes you a king
or pauper
with two fish
or an ocean
for the masses—
makes one laugh
or shed many of tears
with a thought
one magnifies love
and the crowded hour
descends to cold seclusion
with a thought
you meditate
the riot of suffrage
with reason and spirit
and bring forth
peace of mind
and gladness of heart
the abundance of now
and tomorrow
and the empty scarcity
of past
with but a thought
you will tinsel dance
as a feather
in the ages
of chance

– Ephraim Hylton

One Day

One day
We will all be together
In Love and communion
A bursting birth of stars
And purple stream
Angel dust
Across your face
Like the seas
On the ocean
Gravity between
Rings of frenetic fractions
Bright colours
That sound and look
As worlds created
In conversation
I am with the people
As spring blossoms
And life is new again
Smiles and laughter
Sparkle the air
As winds race through
the tall grass
We are separate
Yet bound together
Two shadows
Dancing towards the still hour
Across a ring’d Earth
Our union
Predicts our future
On the precipice of a dream
Within a dream
In a dream
No where to stand
No where to fall
A third gravity takes us
Or not at all

– Ephraim Hylton
